Hand in Hand

There is an old tale
Of an angel who loved a demon
And the demon who tried desperately to ascend
Shed the horns and cloven feet he had earned in the past
Even as she would forsake her perfect wings to feel his burning touch
There is no truth in the tale
Merely a lesson in the bargain lovers make
Each giving up
A past and a future
So that they may share the present
And damn the consequences until the morning after
One tempted
The other inspired
The strength of each making little difference
Nor the cost of their sacrifices
Only the totality of their bond can be measured in the result
Thus the details vary from telling to telling
But the old tale always follows the same dance
